Three Westmoreland Councillors Resign from PNP, Reggae Boyz Qualify for Gold Cup Semi-Final
Three People's National Party (PNP) councillors in Western Westmoreland have resigned from the party, effective Monday, July 10. The councillors, Ian Myles, Garfield James, and Lawton McKenzie, said they were resigning in protest of the party's decision to select former MP Ian Hayles as the party's candidate for Member of Parliament in the next general election.
The councillors said they were unhappy with the party's decision to select Hayles, who they believe is not the best candidate for the constituency. They also said they were concerned about the party's internal democracy and felt that their voices were not and felt being heard.
The three councillors' resignations are a blow to the PNP in Western Westmoreland, considered a marginal constituency. The PNP will now need to find three new candidates to run for the three divisions that the councillors represented.
