Santos Says Players Racially Abused During Copa Match in Chile

Santos, a Brazilian team, claims that two of its players were subjected to racial taunts on Wednesday in a Copa Libertadores encounter in Chile. The players, Black defender Joaquim and Black attacker Ngelo, reportedly endured monkey chants and other forms of racism from supporters of Chilean team Universidad de Chile.

Copa Sudamericana live score, Santos said that it had complained to CONMEBOL, South America's football governing body, asking for a rematch. Santos promised in the statement that racism would not "go unpunished."

According to CONMEBOL, an investigation into the event is ongoing, and if racism was involved, "appropriate action" would be taken.

The event is the most recent in a string of racist soccer-related incidents in South America. After being found guilty of racially insulting players from River Plate in 2021, a group of Boca Juniors supporters were prohibited from attending games for three years.

In South America, racism is a significant issue that needs to be tackled. Santos' players have every right to ask for racial discrimination to be penalized, and CONMEBOL must act to prevent this from happening again.
